Our story

The history of the Church of God, Anderson, Indiana, began in 1890, thirty years after the beginning of our nation's Civil War. It was a time of reconciliation and religious awakening in America. It was in this climate that Daniel Sydney Warner sensed the revelation for the Church of God, with whom our church is affiliated. The theme of the church was "Unity and Holiness," and through the eyes of D.S. Warner, this new movement of saints embarked upon a "Quest for Unity and Holiness," and we are still in search of all of its truth, grace and righteousness.

In 1910, some 20 years after D.S. Warner founded the Church of God, Anderson, Indiana, Mr. James Turner, and his family lived at 1504 Simpson Street.  Sara Turner became the first convert in what was known as the "Turner Church." Prayer meeting was held in their home and, thus, their home became the first meeting place for the church.  In 1911, Turner Church changed its name to Church of God, and the First Pastor of the Church was Lena Cooper.

Over the years First Church of God grew rapidly - From Turner Church To Church of God To First Church of God and present First Church of God Christian Life Center currently under the leadership of Pastor Monte’ L.G.Dillard, Sr – Senior Pastor since November 2010.

First Church of God Christian Life Center, is a faith based  Christian Church who is solely lead by the Holy Spirit.  We have always and continue to stand on the mission of our Church - “To prepare a people by faith in Jesus Christ thru the redemptive act of salvation and the evolving works of the Holy Spirit, evangelizing and saving the world one soul at a time.”

Our Vision – Pastor Monte’ L. G. Dillard, Sr.

To cultivate a culture of ministry that is a supplier of all things in the Kingdom of God. To create progression, growth and excellence through love to be available to all across cultural, socioeconomic and spiritual experiences.

Respect - I Peter 2:17
Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

Love - Galatians 5:14
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Peace - Hebrews 12:14
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Forgiveness - Luke 6:37
Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven.

Unity – Ephesians 4:1-5
(1)I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, (2) With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; (3)Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (4) There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; (5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism

Habakkuk 2: 2-3
And the LORD answered me, and said, write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
